About Us

Mountain View Cemetery located in beautiful downtown Centralia was established in 1899 and is the final resting space for over 8200 individuals. Many of the older interments were prominent members of the Twin Cities.

As you walk through this historic cemetery you will notice the many headstones of various shapes and styles depicting the century long and counting life of this cemetery. The grounds are covered with well seasoned trees and shrubs scattered throughout, depicting a local charm to the rich history that is Mt. View Cemetery.

The oldest building on the property which dates from the late 20’s to early 30’s is now being renovated and restored to it’s earlier glory. It will house the equipment needed to maintain the 28.3 acers which encompass the cemetery. The first building you encounter when entering the cemetery, known as the brick building, once used as the cemetery office, will be the next to receive renovation. The current plans are to convert this building into an enclosed columbarium filled with glass front niches. The existing fireplace will be converted to an electric fireplace giving the impression of warmth and comfort along with bench seating.

Mt. View Cemetery has much to offer the communities surrounding it with in-ground burials, crypt spaces, columbarium spaces, a Nature Walk Scattering Preserve and Urn Garden. Our short-term plans include new columbarium walls along the South edge of the cemetery.

Our full time staff are Fr. Gary Graveline Chief Operating Officer and owner of the Cemetery, Gary has over 45 years as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer as well as Cemetery Manager, he is a veteran having served our nation for over eight years, and our part-time staff member; John Barrass who has a number of years as Cemetery Supervisor under his belt. Fr. Stephen Morrison is one of the owners who despite his age is working diligently revitalizing the cemetery grounds and buildings. Fr. Stephen is a retired Naval Captain serving in Viet Nam and several locations in the United States. The office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the summer and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the winter.
